In most situations the need to act fast is obvious. But remember that even if you think you have lots of time to consider your alternatives, be careful that you review your options before the deadline is upon you. Also with that in mind you need to remember that you and lawyer will need time to prepare your case or options. All lawyers will tell you that it is a wise decision to start looking for a lawyer sooner than later.
Some cases involve an injury or accident. In these situations you need to remember there are specific time limits on your right to file a lawsuit. The law requires a claimant to notify potential defendants about any injury within an extremely short period of time, so consulate with your attorney to make sure that you do not miss these time requirements.
The next question is: What are you trying to achieve?
This may or may not be an easy question to answer. If you yourself are a defendant in a civil suit or charged with a crime the answer is simple. The goal is simple, keep your money out of your adversary's pocket, or avoid criminal measures.
In some situations, the answer and the objective may be less clear. You will want to talk over these situations with a lawyer to get the right answers to your questions. With that new information you will be able to give proper thought about your options before you hire a lawyer.
